By Yann Bacquet | Architect DPLG | AD VITAM
At AD VITAM, architecture goes beyond private and commercial projects. For over ten years, our practice has been involved in humanitarian work across Southeast Asia and the Himalayas, using design and construction as tools for solidarity, education, and resilience.
Projects Designed With and For Communities
Every humanitarian project has been developed in close collaboration with local communities. We have designed schools, orphanages, housing, and community facilities tailored to the unique needs of each site and its people.
Our approach: respect local craftsmanship, use locally available materials, and embrace local traditions and lifestyles.
Diverse Locations and Challenges
Our projects span a wide range of contexts:
- Vietnam: rural schools and residential buildings.
- Cambodia and Thailand: community facilities and housing.
- India (Tamil Nadu): support for schools and care homes.
- Nepal (Everest region): rehabilitation of damaged schools and designs adapted to extreme conditions.
Blending Architecture, Sustainability, and Education
Beyond construction, each project included an educational dimension. We trained local artisans, raised awareness of sustainability, and promoted the use of simple, replicable building techniques.
Our goal: leave behind not just functional, attractive, and durable buildings but also skills and knowledge passed on to the community.
An Experience That Enriches Our Private Projects
This humanitarian work directly informs our practice in France and internationally. It deepens our listening skills, adaptability, and commitment to sustainable, thoughtful architectural solutions that are sensitive to human needs.
